Apple iPad 2: First person waits at the store - 33 hours early

Jewels Lewis from London was the first person to queue and he arrived at
7.30am, with a 33-and-a-half hour wait ahead of him.

Mr Lewis, who said he was fourth in the queue when the first generation iPad
was released last year, said he was well prepared for his wait. He said:
“I’ve got a blanket, I’ve got my iPad, my iPhone and some books and
magazines to read."

He said that friends and family would be bringing him supplies and would keep
him company during the wait.

Apple’s product launches have a history of drawing long queues; there are
typically queues when the iPhone is updated each summer.

The new iPad, announced by Apple at the beginning of the month and launched in
the US on March 11, is thinner and lighter than the first model and, Apple
says, considerably faster thanks to a new dual core processor.

Apple confirmed earlier this week that the iPad 2 would start at £399 for the
basic model - cheaper than the equivalent model last year, which cost £429.
Besides the UK, the iPad 2 goes on sale in 24 countries tomorrow.
